Market Background
As a relatively developed country in South America, Chile has maintained a long-term stable economic growth trend, and its GDP growth rate ranks among the top in the region. The stable economic environment has increased residents’ disposable income and steadily improved their consumption capacity. Cars have gradually changed from luxury goods to a necessary tool for daily family travel, which has led to a continuous increase in the number of cars.
At present, the number of cars in Chile has exceeded 6 million. The huge car base has built a solid scale foundation for the auto parts market. With the increase in the service life of cars, the demand for parts replacement, repair and maintenance continues to emerge, which has promoted the continuous expansion of the auto parts market.
The development of Chile’s local automobile manufacturing industry is lagging behind, the upstream and downstream supporting facilities of the industrial chain are not perfect, and the production capacity of core parts is weak, which makes it difficult to meet the domestic market’s demand for diversified and high-quality auto parts products. This situation has led to a high dependence on imports in the Chilean auto parts market, with more than 90% of auto parts being purchased from abroad.
The main import sources include China, Brazil, Spain, etc., among which China occupies a dominant position with its cost-effective products. The auto parts market is concentrated in the capital Santiago and the southern industrial zone, with a mature regional distribution network covering major densely populated areas.
Chile is one of the most open economies in South America. It has signed free trade agreements with 34 countries (including China, the United States, and the European Union), and can radiate more than 200 million people in the Andean Community (CAN) and the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR).
